New Work = burning down ALL the old bridges?
Year 3 of the pandemic. The “new work” is part of today’s business life. We can sit back home at our kitchen table or in the living room…or for some who have already set up their own office back home, a dream comes finally true. Skip the commuting, more time for yourself more time for the loved ones. Happy “Alice in Wonderland”. For some businesses, this may indeed be the way they should and will go. For as someone working in the creative industry, I see it a little bit differently. Upfront to say: I m no home office type of guy. I can work from home. As a gamer,…

Metaverse … been there, done that.
Metaverse…the new Buzzword that now taking speed in Marketing Channels these days. „The next big thing“ People that went to a virtual environment, spending time, having fun, doing stuff that you usually do in the real world like going to a concert, meeting people, friends or family….without even leaving your home. Sounds too good to be true. Mark Zuckerberg even seems to go all-in on this idea of an environment that provides a kind of 3D or 2D world where you can do all this stuff, including shopping. And this is where the Marketeers start getting interested. A new channel for getting in touch with consumers, even a new sale-channel…

Why Ad agencies shouldn´t do political advertising
Advertising changed since I started more than a decade ago. In my early times as Junior Account advertising was a mix of knowledge, personal sense, and market research. When we created a campaign we usually started by researching on the web, combined with analyzing former campaigns. Then we started. Years later now it´s more or less based on big data, customer analysis, and other data we take, mix and then start the creative stuff. Sounds nearly the same? Yes and no, because the amount of data and the quality of data that is provided today is denser, User profiles are way more exact as they were in the past. The…

World Cup 2018 – Coca-Cola celebrates Island! Thumbs up for that!
Today marks the end of the journey of the Islands national soccer team. 1:2 vs Croatia means packing the suitcases and enjoy the rest of the World Cup 2018 on screen or at the stadium (I don´t know if they stay until the rest of the tournament). Basically, every child, man, woman, elder all over the world or at least Europe that has some crush on soccer knows the team around the team captain Aron Gunnarsson. And even if you can not remember one name. Their cheer you will remember. Coca-Cola did some remarkable pieces of advertising about this team…and not only about the team, but on the people of…

Why we should be less Social (media) to be more Social
Today a former colleague of mine celebrates her birthday. Facebook already informed me and of course, reminded me that I should leave a message on her wall. As always. The thing is: I don’t like those Facebook wall messages anymore. Some years ago, I was quite happy to count the number of people that wrote on my wall, until I recognized for myself that this was not really something that was driven by those people but more caused by permanent reminders by Facebook. So those wall messages dropped hugh in my value. I started to put more value in personal messages via WhatsApp, Twitter, SMS (totally old school) or even…

We need more long copy in advertising … more then ever!
It´s been quite a while, but I remember pretty well. I was heading to the office on a usual morning in London. Subway was crowded (as every morning) and I picked up my edition of the “Metro” at the entrance of the tube about to start what´s going on in the world of stars and gossip…and yes, of course some news (I really love this mix of information in this paper…even today I read it most of the time on my way to work every morning here in Germany…it´s a lovely little habit, but the app can´t beat the printed version.) So while I was waiting for my tube a…

Why DSGVO is the wrong approach to protect the people
The 25th of May is coming closer and closer and companies getting hectic to prepare themselves for DSGVO to match the requirements. But is this the right approach? To make this clear, tracking people on the web in the way it is currently is not acceptable anymore. Facebook and Google get so much information about people that it’s too easy for them the profile, measure, and (sadly) manipulate them. So the European Union sets up always more and more regulations to prevent this. But the thing is: The intention may be good, but where there is light, there is always a shadow close by. Because the negative aspect of this…

Chill out … music for stressful days in the agency
Especially on stressful days, and when I need to focus on what so ever, I try to log off from my environment. Especially when my phone and other disturbances keep me from doing what I have to do, to get things done before I need to stay all night long in the agency. So music and my noise-canceling headphones are my attempts to get and stay focused. Usually, Spotify was my preferred music source, but I found some really smooth alternatives on youtube. A guy named “ChilledCow” … did some great remixes. I love to hear those because they really let me focus on my work. What I like is…

Why blogging is good for you
Ever considered starting a blog? Yes, you should! Better start today, than tomorrow! Why? As someone who´s writing blogs for more than 11 years now, I can give you 5 reasons: 01. Blogging relaxes For me writing an article is something like relaxing therapy. I have to focus on something that I really like. No one tells me what I have to do. Blogging means for me creating content that is 100% my decision. It is this kind of freedom that I need in times when most of the things you have to do are based on decisions made by others. My blog is my kingdom. No one can tell…
